TAB Ipswich Cup Day played out in front of a happy crowd of more than 12,500 revellers on Saturday and while celebrations were joyous across the grounds, some of the winners were moved to tears after seeing their runners successful.
It was a family affair for trainer Greg Wright after The Right Way won the Channel 7 Winter Provincial Stayers Final.
The wins of Flash Aah in the TAB Ipswich Cup and Oughton in the Barrier Reef Pools Eye Liner Stakes elicited similarly strong emotions from winning connections.
It was more business like for Godolphin, who landed the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic with consistent mare Kin.
It completed a winning double for jockey Angela Jones, who was successful earlier on Castillian.
The other feature was won by Mister Bianco, who continued trainer Paul Shailer’s good recent run of Ipswich when he proved a touch strong in the Schweppes T.L. Cooney for three-year-olds.
Mister Bianco races in the colours of Peter Tighe made famous by Winx. The club was thrilled to see Tighe win a feature race on the day, as he had been kind enough to bring the four Cox Plates won by Winx to the TAB Calcutta at the club on Thursday night, where guests were able to have their photo taken with the famous pieces of silverware.
Off the track, Havana Brown headlined a star-studded infield festival, where our new partner Red Bull helped shape a terrific afternoon for guests.
The new areas of the Bundy Bitumen Bash and Grange Gardens were also a hit with guests enjoying hospitality and live entertainment.
After the last, DJ Vyce Verso played to a very lively after-party, with patrons dancing and unwinding following the big day to an array of popular tunes.
