Ipswich Preview And Selections 12 October 2022

Date: 11-Oct-2022

Nine races will be run and won at Wednesday’s Ipswich Turf Club metropolitan meeting with the first race jumping at 12:41 pm.

The track as of Tuesday is rated a Soft 5 with the rail out 2 metres between the 1600m and 1100m and 4 metres the remainder. With a favourable weather forecast, we should be in for a good day’s racing.

Race 1 - 12:41PM BASE METAL FABRICATION QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1680 METRES)

Speed: The speed looks moderate at best with Havanothergo and Soothsayer the most likely to lead.

Gear Changes: Havanothergo (2) Blinkers FIRST TIME, Nose Roll OFF FIRST TIME, Uncommon Valour (3) Blinkers OFF FIRST TIME

Parisian Lady (4) looked flat second-up when finishing 3.65 lengths fifth to Narnia over 1350m at Doomben. That is understandable given her super run to win first-up on a heavy Sunshine Coast track. She can bounce back here and the extra distance looks ideal.

Uncommon Valour (3) got a very long way back before finishing off well for third in the Toowoomba Guineas last start as a well backed favourite. He will again settle back but it may not be such a problem here with the small field and moderate speed.

Havanothergo (2) was solid after racing wide when resuming against older horses at the Sunshine Coast over 1600m. Will be fitter second-up and the addition of blinkers should work a treat. Gets a sweet run from the inside gate.

On Top Selection: Parisian Lady (4)

Race 2 - 1:16PM THIS IS A CONVERSATION STARTER RACEDAY 28 OCTOBER QTIS 3-Y-O BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1350 METRES)

Speed: Only a small field but the speed should be decent with Sailor’s Secret, Cocobrew Express and Artemas all capable of going forward.

Gear Changes: Affogato Girl (5) Tongue Tie FIRST TIME, Artemas (6) Blinkers FIRST TIME, Tongue Tie OFF FIRST TIME

Sailor’s Secret (4) should be ready to fire after two solid runs this preparation. Last start he boxed on for a 2.8 length fourth to Yellow Brick over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast. Ekaterina finished third in that race and then won impressively at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Last preparation when third-up over this course and distance, Sailor’s Secret was beaten a head by Cocobrew Express who he meets better at the weights.

Invinovich (2) would have preferred to be racing in the final race of the day over 1100m but unfortunately he drew a poor gate. He broke through for his maiden win last start over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast which might have seen the penny drop for this guy. It’s a big step up to 1350m second-up but he can be in this for a long way.

Cocobrew Express (1) led and weakened when finishing 10.7 lengths behind Madame Odette in the Toowoomba Guineas last start. He drops in distance but is undefeated over this course and distance in two starts. That includes three starts back when resuming. Big weight but gets Angela Jones’ 3kg claim. Nominated for Saturday’s $125k race at Eagle Farm so Tommy Button may chase those big bucks.

Artemas (6) ran on fairly when finishing just behind Sailor’s Secret at the Sunshine Coast last start. He’ll be fitter second-up and blinkers going on will switch him on nicely. He’s only lightly raced so has scope for improvement.

Affogato Girl (5) will face a dry track for the first time since his debut run which makes him a wild card and capable of big improvement. Prepared to put a line through his first-up run where he finished down the track on a very heavy Gold Coast track behind Plundering.

On Top Selection: Sailor’s Secret (4)

Race 3 - 1:51PM NEED A YARN? TIACS SUPPORT LINE 0488 846 988 Maiden Plate (1350 METRES)

Speed: Buon Acquisito and Rocky should lead at a steady clip. Excuse Me can cross and be prominent from the outside gate.

Gear Changes: Buon Acquisto (3) Bubble Cheeker (Near Side) FIRST TIME, Cross-over Nose Band FIRST TIME, Tongue Tie FIRST TIME, Glamzelle (12) Blinkers AGAIN

Aircraftman (1) ran well in his first start for Chris Meagher after previously racing in Sydney with John Thompson. He resumed over 1350m at Doomben and after drawing barrier 13, raced three-wide the trip but still finished off strongly for a half-length second to Kronenbourg. He’ll be fitter second-up and gets the benefit of the inside gate. Should be handy in the run.

Rocky Rogue (9) started favourite in the Aircraftman Doomben race following a nice trial. He raced handy and was held up in the straight before finishing fifth. Fitness let him down late but he will have come on since then. He’ll race on the speed for Ryan Maloney.

Drammatica (11) has finished in the placings at all four starts this preparation. After a wide run last start over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast, she ran on well but was picked off late to finish half a length second. Drawn wide again but will be finding the line strongly.

Kinetic (13) looks close to a win after narrowly finishing second in her past two starts at Doomben and the Sunshine Coast. She’s drawn a touch sticky but will carry just 52.5kg after the claim for Angela Jones.

On Top Selection: Aircraftman (1)

Race 4 - 2:26PM SIRROMET Maiden Plate (1100 METRES)

Speed: They should get along at a good tempo. Helluva Barty, Sooblond and Roll Up will be in the leading pack.

Gear Changes: Sooblond (4) Tongue Tie FIRST TIME, Daring Diego (7) Gelded, Witness Attack (15) Winkers OFF FIRST TIME

Schmoozer (1) was a good thing beaten on debut over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast. He got pinned away on the fence in the straight. When he finally got clear he savaged the line to just miss the win. The extra distance suits and he’s drawn to get a great run.

Helluva Barty (8) will be better for the experience after finishing a close third to Brookhaven over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast on debut. He was a touch overawed by the occasion and was a bit lost once he hit the front so will only be better second-up. From the good gate he’ll race on the speed and be in this a long way.

Kai Tak (10) comes up from Sydney to resume here following a 25-week spell. The Bjorn Baker-trained filly has warmed up for this with two trial wins over the past few months. Will appreciate the dry Ipswich tracks after previously racing on heavy decks in Sydney. Drawn to get a great run.

Warrioress (6) resumes here on the back of the two trials. At her most recent trial she worked to the line well under her own steam to win well in good time. She looks to have come back better this preparation but will have to deal with an outside gate.

On Top Selection: Schmoozer (1)

Race 5 - 3:01PM BUNDABERG RUM BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1680 METRES)

Speed: Dorset Coast can cross from wide out to lead. Barrymore may push forward in a race with moderate pace.

Gear Changes: Roller Coaster (4) Tongue Tie FIRST TIME, If You Can Dream (7) Blinkers FIRST TIME, Tongue Tie AGAIN

Carneros (6) looks right in this. Last start he just couldn’t match motors in the straight with Smytzer over 1600m at the Sunshine Coast and had to settle for a 1.8 length second. Ronlee Gal was third in that race and won on Friday night. From barrier 1, Jimmy Orman should give him the run of the race.

If You Can Dream (7) can win with this without surprising after not having the greatest of luck recently. Two starts back over this 1350m here, she was held up the length of the straight when 1.7 lengths behind A Call From Heaven. Drive A Deel was just ahead of her that day and she won on Saturday at Eagle Farm. That form holds up here.

Beef Week Princess (8) got too far back last start before running on for a two-length sixth to A Call From Heaven. The extra distance suits but she will again have work to do given she’ll more than likely settle at the back from the outside gate. She should be finding the line hard.

Roller Coaster (4) has disappointed in two runs back this preparation. He did win over this course and distance last preparation. The tongue tie may help him turn things around.

On Top Selection: Carneros (6)

Race 6 - 3:36PM NUTURF BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (2150 METRES)

Speed: Sherriff Cody can lead this field at a steady speed.

Coup De Tonnerre (3) should be nearing peak fitness now fourth-up and ready to show his best. He worked home well last start over 1600m at the Sunshine Coast to finish a half-length second to First Son. He’s drawn wide but has the early speed to cross and find a forward position.

Pool Pony (12) found the line well to finish 1.6 lengths fifth to Gentle Prince last start at the Sunshine Coast over 1600m. He was eight-weeks between runs so will strip a lot fitter here. Jimmy Byrne should be able to settle in the first six horses and enjoy a nice run.

Blazen Boots (10) finished off strongly to win two starts back over 1500m at Eagle Farm. Last start he got a long way back at the Sunshine Coast but got home well despite being held up in the straight to finish third to Gentle Prince. He again looks to settle back given he has drawn the outside gate.

Luvyouanytime (4) has been racing in consistent form this preparation and cannot be discounted. He’s dropping in trip after finishing third to So Dapper in town with no weight. This is a drop in class but he rises 5kg in weight. He’s placed five times from nine starts at Ipswich. Pat Duff and Wendy Peel have struck a great combination.

On Top Sélection: Coup De Tonnerre (3)

Race 7 - 4:16PM ICARE SUPPORT SERVICES Class 3 Handicap (1350 METRES)

Speed: They should get along here with Coodarady, Husson’s Revenge and Laraina all driving forward.

Gear Changes: Super Gorgeous (3) Concussion Plates (Front) FIRST TIME

Zoukina (1) put in a big run last start to finish third to the flying Drive A Deel at Doomben over 1350m. Zoukina was never on the track yet still ran home strongly to finish under a length from the winner who won well on Saturday. She draws to get an economical run and if she gets the split in the straight, will be hard to hold out.

Coodarady (6) won on debut in Sydney before two lacklustre performances. He comes to Queensland for Chris Waller following a nice trial win over Anamoe. He has the early speed to lead and give them something to catch.

Green Reign (2) impressed last start when going forward prior to the turn and dashing clear to win easily by 4.25 lengths at Doomben. A heavy downpour did occur during the race so he may have been favoured by the conditions. However, obviously given the authority of the win he has to be respected.

Husson’s Revenge (7) won here over 1100m three starts back. Last start he was caught wide and understandably weakened late when finishing 2.4 lengths behind Starzam at the Sunshine Coast over 1400m. He’s drawn much better here in barrier 2 and the drop in distance suits.

On Top Selection: Zoukina (1)

Race 8 - 4:56PM OXLEY GOLF CLUB BENCHMARK 68 Handicap (1200 METRES)

Speed: Expecting good early speed here with Moreton Bay looking to come across from the outside. Xerri will look to drive forward from the inside.

Gear Changes: Brave Warrior (5) Tongue Tie FIRST TIME, Holstein (6) Ear Muffs (Pre-Race Only) FIRST TIME

Moreton Bay (9) capitalised on some great form this preparation with a win last start at Doomben. After drawing wide, she showed good early speed to cross before proving superior in the run home to win by two-lengths. She again draws wide but she can cross and settle in a prominent position for Angela Jones who claims 3kg.

Brocky (11) made full use of the inside gate to win well at the Sunshine Coast over 1200m last start. That was Sam Collett’s first ride on the gelding and she sticks here. From a good gate he should again gain the favours and continue his good form.

Philly Special (10) will find this easier than last start when she was well beaten by Self Indulgent at Doomben. Prior to that she bolted in at the Gold Coast and won here first-up. The wide gate is a concern but she has the talent to overcome it.

Xerri (3) enjoyed a nice run to finish third over 1000m at Toowoomba on Weetwood day. He’s drawn super and will go forward to try to lead however he may be suspect in the concluding stages given he is stepping up to 1200m.

On Top Selection: Moreton Bay (9)

Race 9 - 5:26PM THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT Class 1 Handicap (1100 METRES)

Speed: They won’t muck around here with a number of horses vying for the lead. Control Freak, Green Legend, Klinsmann and Preach look to be the most likely to be out in front.

Control Freak (3) failed last start at the Gold Coast with the jockey suggesting he didn’t handle the heavy track. I suspect this guy prefers it dry which he got two starts back when leading and winning easily over this course and distance. He draws well for Ryan Maloney which should see him lead or settle handy.

Not Another (11) worked home strongly to just miss last start over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast. She’s been racing in good form this preparation and is generally never far away. She should enjoy a nice run just behind the speed.

Green Legend (9) looked good when leading and dashing away to win by 2.3 lengths at Beaudesert last start. He was first-up and also having his first run for Doug Duryea. He’ll have come on second-up and should be in the firing line when it counts.

Immoral (6) got to the line fairly last start after settling too far back. Prior form was good including a third to Amity Gal two back when running on strongly. The strong speed in the race suits.

On Top Selection: Control Freak (3)
