The Ipswich Turf Club has been deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Committeeman and friend, Ian Leavers.
The revered former Police Union boss had been a member of the ITC Committee since 2018-2019.
The outpouring of emotion and tributes in the past 24 hours are befitting of the wonderful man Ian was and consistent with the person who made a generous, selfless contribution to the betterment of the ITC over the past seven years.
"Ian brought an enormously high level of experience in lobbying and association with people of all levels of government. He had been enthusiastically learning more about the industry and the club had great plans for him moving forward," ITC Chairman Wayne Patch said.
"To see that tragically cut short is not just a loss to the ITC, but the racing industry and the community as a whole. 'Leavo' was a wonderful friend to many and as good a company to be in as you could wish for."
The ITC wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to Ian's family and friends.
The Vale Ian Leavers Maiden Plate will be run in his honour as the opening race of this Thursday's ITC race meeting.
