From the time-honoured infield festival to the dozens of marquees that line the home straight, the Ipswich Turf Club is a true festival of racing, hospitality and entertainment on TAB Ipswich Cup Day.
As the most attended race meeting of the entire Winter Racing Carnival and second to only Magic Millions annually on the Queensland calendar, Ipswich Cup has stood the test of time – but that doesn’t mean the Club doesn’t make sure the event keeps evolving each year.
ITC Events Manager Angela Townsing, who oversees the running of some 150 events annually at the club’s Events & Entertainment Centre, said there is something for everyone on Cup Day, ranging from the $30 General Admission (pre-purchase) to the all-new $265 Tempus Two Grange Gardens function.
“I love the cross-section of people we get to Ipswich Cup each year, but they each have different preferences, so we try to have different offerings that cater for as wide a range of people as possible,” Townsing said.
"That could be the Infield Festival, a private marquee or one of our function spaces, which this year include The Terrace presented by Gordon’s Gin, the Bundy Bitumen Bash and Grange Gardens."
The new Grange Garden function, or ‘GG’s’ as it will be known, sits on the beautiful lawns overlooking the mounting yard and just past the finishing post, allowing guests to get up close and personal with the horses while at the same time enjoying the best we have to offer in food, wine and beverages.
“Our head chef Dan Gliddon has created a menu that will include Cajun prawns, beef sliders, salmon blinis, BBQ Pork Buns, pumpkin arancini and Karaage Chicken, paired with an extensive drinks menu that will be served across the five hours of the function,” Townsing said.
At the other end of the scale, the Bundy Bitumen Bash in the 1666 Car Park offers a great value $80 play for punters, comprising a two-hour food and beverage package and a private area for the remainder of the raceday.
