Racing returns to Ipswich this Thursday where the club will host a nine-race card.

At time of writing the track was rated a Soft 6 with the rail out 6m the entire course.

We’ve provided our top selection in each race below.

Race 1 - 12:35PM FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (800 METRES)

6 Avone

Avone resumes here following a 650m trial at Toowoomba where she showed good speed to lead all the way. The Tony and Maddy Sears-trained filly was narrowly beaten here on debut over 1100m before breaking through at her next start. The Toowoomba trainers thought enough of her ability to enter her in the Bill Carter Stakes last start where she finished 4.8 lengths seventh. She has the early speed to give this a shake.

Race 2 - 1:10PM CONTRACT CHEFS AUSTRALIA Maiden Handicap (1690 METRES)

1 United Front

United Front has finished in the placings in each of his past three starts and just seems to find one better each time. Three starts back he worked home strongly to finish a length second over this course and distance. He then was third to Kapikiri who franked the form by winning on Saturday at the Sunshine Coast. Last start the Kelly Schweida-trained gelding hit the line hard at Eagle Farm to miss the win by a nose. He draws well and again gets his chance to break through.

Race 3 - 1:45PM BLONDIES POWDER COATING Maiden Plate (1200 METRES)

14 Shot Out

Shot Out hit the front in the straight here last start when resuming over this course and distance but she was overpowered late by Booga Ray who had a fitness advantage. The Peter Robl-trained three-year-old filly will strip fitter second-up. Last preparation she went with a nose of winning her second run back. She has the speed to go forward and find a forward position for Jag Guthmann-Chester.

Race 4 - 2:20PM SAMMUT BULOW Class 4 Handicap (1200 METRES)

5 Media Scandal

Media Scandal was the beneficiary of a solid speed when resuming over this course and distance last start. In her first race for trainer Jack Bruce, the four-year-old mare settled handy before charging to the line to win by just under a length. She’ll have come on since that run and maps to get a great behind what looks to be a genuine tempo.

Race 5 - 2:55PM TAB Class 2 Handicap (1200 METRES)

1 Pacific Atlantic

Pacific Atlantic resumed for new trainer Adam Campton last start over this 1100m at this track. The four-year-old gelding settled back after drawing the outside gate before savaging the line to finish a head second to Mixed Spice. He’ll strip fitter second-up and gets the services of leading Ipswich jockey Jimmy Orman. He’ll enjoy a much better run this time from barrier 3.

Race 6 - 3:35PM SIRROMET BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (800 METRES)

9 Hot Or Not

Hot Or Not has been flying over these short course scampers lately with wins in her past two starts. The Pat Webster-trained mare impressed last start when using the inside gate to advantage and skipping away for a 2.3 length win at Gatton over 860m. This is her hardest test to date but she has the speed to give this a shake with just 53kg on her back.

Race 7 - 4:10PM BARRIER REEF POOLS Class 1 Handicap (1690 METRES)

3 Russian Mystic

Russian Mystic impressed in his first start for the astute Barry Lockwood when winning over 1350m at Doomben. The son of Russian Revolution showed a nice turn of foot to charge through a gap to race away for a 1.8 length win. He’ll strip fitter second-up and given the way he found the line last start, he’ll enjoy the rise in distance.

Race 8 - 4:50PM RAY WHITE IPSWICH BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1350 METRES)

14 Spicy Legend

Spicy Legend was a dominant five-length winner three starts back when claiming his maiden victory on the Gold Coast Poly track. Last start the Peter Robl-trained colt was belted by Weigall Tiger when finishing second by 4.8 lengths at Eagle Farm over 1400m but the winner looks well above average. Jag Guthmann-Chester can use his mount’s gate speed to find the front and give them something to catch.

Race 9 - 5:30PM GREAT NORTHERN RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap (1350 METRES)

13 Chayse ‘N’ Adam

Chayse ‘N’ Adam resumes here for her second preparation. The Les Kelly-trained filly broke her maiden status over this course and distance at her third start to end her last campaign. On that occasion she found the line powerfully. She would have furnished during the break and maps to do no work. If the money comes on race day, we can be confident of a bold showing.
