BORN on the Gold Coast by Carl Bellamy out of Angela Burke, both very good trainers, Jay Bellamy started driving trotters even before he could drive a car.
About five years ago, Jay decided to switch to the gallopers, and he’s had strong success so far with 63 wins from 534 starts.
He said the key to training trotters was stamina; the difference with gallopers was the addition of speed.
Now, backed by a builder who has sunk a fortune into creating a horse heaven near Beaudesert, the future looks bright for the instantly likeable trainer.
