Kaluakoi: Emily’s Cup win

Kaluakoi: Emily’s Cup win New

Date: 25-Jun-2026

Ipswich jockey Jake Bayliss will have to wait another year to fulfil his dream of winning his hometown Cup after Belvedere Boys finished fifth last Saturday.

Jake was happy with his mount's run until the 600, when he couldn't get a cart into the race, but he said Belvedere Boys showed a good turn of foot once clear before peaking at the 100m.

“So maybe he's a query at the trip. The 2150 might have just been a stretch," Jake said.

“It’s a hard race to win. It doesn't matter what you're on, you’ve got to get the right run.”

Apprentice Emily Lang rode Kaluakoi to a stirring, all-the-way win in the $250,000 Listed TAB Ipswich Cup (2150m) for training duo Chris and Corey Munce.

Emily capped the day with another Stakes success, guiding Naifah to victory in the $160,000 Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1200m) for Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior.

When the Ipswich Tribune Today caught up with Chris and Corey, they were in the winners’ bar toasting Kaluakoi.

“Ipswich has been a happy hunting ground for our stable and his pattern of racing suits Ipswich,” Corey said.

“So we were quietly confident with no weight on his back, knowing he was near his peak today, he’d run a race.” READ MORE
