Flash Aah became one of the oldest TAB Ipswich Cup winners in history when he wound back the clock and ended a 1000-plus day losing streak when winning the 2150m in the last stride under Ron Stewart.
Flash Aah was one of the outsiders in the field, but trainer Troy Pascoe was somewhat optimistic about the horse’s chances following his final lead-up at Caloundra.
"He's been terribly unlucky. Every start they've just walked and made it impossible for him to run home,” Pascoe said.
"I never lost faith in him. I kept saying that this was the race I wanted to get him in. I absolutely thought he could win it.
"I was blown away at the price. Couldn't believe it.
"My staff have done an amazing job. He ran third in this race four years ago and to come back as a nine, rising ten-year-old, they should take a bow.”
Pascoe is no less than the eighth trainer to have prepared the gelding during his 47 start career, which has now netted nearly $700,000 in earnings.
