Ipswich Preview and Selections 6 May 2023

Date: 05-May-2023

We’ve had plenty of racing at Ipswich in recent weeks and there’s more to come this weekend with a rare Saturday meeting.

Eight races are scheduled to be run and won under what should be perfect weather conditions. The track is rated a Good 4 with the rail out 2m between the 1100m and 300m and true the remainder.

Our thoughts on each race can be found below.

Race 1 - 12:14PM FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1350 METRES)

Golden Decade (5) has started his career in good style. He ran on well for second on debut over 1115m at Grafton. Last start he was doing his best work late when cutting into the margin of the promising Abounding at the Sunshine Coast over 1350m. He should be peaking third-up.

Red Defcon (6) was slow away but hit the line hard to finish second over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast last start. She was obviously looking for further and gets that here.

Central Park (2) was good on debut when finishing second over this course and distance. Montana Phlipot takes the ride and her 3kg claim will come in handy. Will strip fitter second-up.

Boomster (1) has been fair in two runs over 1000m this preparation. While the rise 350m isn’t ideal, he will be better suited over the loner trip.

On Top Selection: Golden Decade (5)

Race 2 - 12:49PM OPS SERVICES PARTY TEAM QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1100 METRES)

Addriel (3) rocketed home clocking the fastest final 200m of the race when finishing a half-length second at the Sunshine Coast over 1000m on debut. He’ll strip fitter and have taken benefit from the experience. The slight rise in trip looks ideal.

Nazorian (1) is awkwardly drawn in the outside gate but has shown ability in her career. Last preparation she won her maiden at Doomben before a good second at Eagle Farm. A recent trial was just fair.

Rich Again (4) is on debut for Chris Munce. Looked good winning a trial in preparation for this. Gets the blinkers on for the first time which signals intent.

North Of Eli (2) won at Grafton two starts back before a weakening over 1200m last start in a stronger race. The drop in trip suits.

On Top Selection: Addriel (3)

Race 3 - 1:24PM CONNELLS RENOS Maiden Handicap (1666 METRES)

American Jazz (1) took off at the 600m to find the front last start at Doomben over 1660m but the sustained run took its toll late and he was overpowered to finish second. The start prior he wasn’t too far off Compass Rose who is Saturday class, maybe higher. He should be reaching peak fitness at his fourth run this preparation.

Cours Vite (3) got too far back last start over this course and distance before working to the line fairly for fourth despite being bumped. The kiwi looks a quality galloper but looks like he’d benefit from a bigger track and he again will get back after drawing the car park.

Enolaba (11) finished just in front of Cours Vite last start. She’s placed in all three runs this preparation and looks ready to fire. Draws to get a great run and drops in weight thanks to the claim.

Flawless Ambition (2) has finished runner-up in his past two starts. Should be at peak fitness but the wide barrier isn’t ideal.

On Top Selection: American Jazz (1)

Race 4 - 1:59PM QUEENSLAND COUNTRY BANK BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (2150 METRES)

Guts ‘N’ Glory (3) made a long, wide run from about the 800m mark last start over 1850m at Toowoomba and despite that fought on strongly for third. He’s got plenty of miles in his legs and drops back in grade. He’s drawn to get an economical run for Jag Guthmann-Chester.

Flensburg (2) will appreciate dropping back to this class after competing in Saturday distance races recently. He should be at peak fitness now after four runs this preparation. The claim helps but he hasn’t won for 80 weeks so does he remember how to?

Chasing Jackley (1) worked to the line well to finish second at Toowoomba over 1625m last start. He looks ready to take on this distance again after a number of good efforts in stronger races. He’ll go forward and give them something to catch. The claim helps.

Tokyo Blossom (11) had been racing well before putting it all together last start to win over 2000m at Warwick. Has had a trial since to keep her fitness up to the mark. This is a big step up in class and she is drawn wide.

On Top Selection: Guts ‘N’ Glory (3)

Race 5 - 2:34PM SWIFTS HOCKEY CLUB RATIINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap (1666 METRES)

Fortivaci (3) was well beaten in a BM66 last start but did work to the line well for third. He’ll appreciate the drop in class here. Prior to that he won his maiden easily first-up before coming with a big run from last to win at Ballina. Drawn a touch sticky but is one of the few horses that brings decent form to the race.

Above The Sky (7) won in similar grade two starts back before being caught deep last start but running on well for a close third at the Sunshine Coast over 1600m. He again draws wide so the possibility of being three deep exists again.

Ice Elite (8) drew wide when resuming last start but was only 1.8 lengths off the winner. He’ll strip fitter second-up and the rise to the mile suits.

Toba (5) should be reaching peak fitness. He’s been racing in stronger races so will appreciate the drop in class. Barrier 1 may not be helpful with his lack of early speed.

On Top Selection: Fortivaci (3)

Race 6 - 3:10PM PROGRAMMED PROPERTY SERVICES BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1666 METRES)

Birdonawing (7) looked good when winning here first-up. She then ran on well for third, going across the line beside Sailor’s Secret, last start over 1350m here. Sailor’s Secret won in impressive fashion at Eagle Farm on Wednesday to frank the form. Birdonawing will appreciate the rise in trip and did win her only other start over the course and distance which happened to be when third-up.

Kalpana (13) resumed with a solid effort behind Kinetic last start over 1350m here. Kinetic won again on Wednesday. Will strip fitter second-up but has only won once in 18 starts.

Instant Karma (6) won two starts back at Toowoomba before running into the talented Prepotent last start at Dalby. He drops in grade and looks ready for this trip now.

Dream Song (3) resumes following a short let up. She won two starts back at Doomben over 1350m. Generally, races well at Ipswich and gets the benefit of a 3kg claim.

On Top Selection: Birdonawing (7)

Race 7 - 3:50PM BISHOPP OUTDOOR ADVERTISING Class 1 Plate (1350 METRES)

Spring Valley (13) worked to the line strongly clocking the quickest final 400m of the race to finish a close second over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast last start. She should be peaking now fourth-up. The blinkers go on for the first time which may see her settle a touch closer from the good gate.

Chayse ‘N’ Artie (5) worked to the line well but was well beaten when second on the Gold Coast Poly first-up. He’ll strip fitter second-up and did race well last preparation over further. Could want further but has won second-up before.

Enviable (7) resumes here following a solid trial against some very quick three-year-olds. Raced well over further last preparation so may find this a touch sharp first-up. Expect him to be running on.

Tavijewel (9) was a touch green but worked to the line strongly to win in good style at Warwick on debut. He’ll be better for the experience second-up.

On Top Selection: Spring Valley (13)

Race 8 - 4:30PM TRIDAN ELECTRICAL SERVICES - EDDIES CUP Class 3 Plate (1200 METRES)

Beaux Rumble (1) raced wide last start at Doomben in a Saturday BM72 over 1200m before finishing just over three lengths behind Self Indulgent. He finished in the placings in town at his two starts prior to that. He should be at peak fitness and will appreciate the drop in class. Maps to get a great run.

Orphan’s Trust (11) looked the winner last start at the Sunshine Coast but was worried out of it late when finishing second. Looks close to a victory and draws well.

Snazz ‘N’ Charm (7) got back and ran on well as he always does last start over this course and distance. He races well here but will need a strong tempo.

Alamira (16) won over 1100m here first-up before having a touch of bad luck last start. Can bounce back third-up but this is harder, and the barrier is no help.

On Top Selection: Beaux Rumble (1)
