Ipswich Preview – Monday 7 October 2024 New

Date: 07-Oct-2024

Following Thursday’s meeting, we’re on the quick back-up today to host a Monday King’s Birthday Holiday six pack.

The rail returns to the true position and with a sweltering day forecast, the track should be upgraded to a Good 4.

You’re on a day off so put the form guide away as we’ve done the hard work for you below.

Race 1 - 1:31PM BARRIER REEF POOLS OPEN Handicap (1200 METRES)

3 Lady Wardell

Lady Wardell was a dominant 1.8 length winner over 1200m at Murwillumbah last start where she led from start to finish.

The start prior, the Stephen Lee-trained mare ran a great race to finish 1.2 lengths third in a Saturday metropolitan race over 1200m at Doomben.

Both those races were on rain-affected tracks but she’s equally adept on a good surface.

She’s won two of four starts at Ipswich and maps to get the run of the race from the inside draw.

Selections: 3-1-6-4

Race 2 - 2:06PM GREAT NORTHERN BM65 Handicap (1666 METRES)

1 Johnny Dash

Johnny Dash will appreciate the big drop in class after competing in stronger races in town.

The Chris & Corey Munce-trained son of I Am Invincible was slow away last start over 1600m at Eagle Farm but worked to the line well despite being hampered late for a 2.1 length fifth.

Earlier this preparation he finished third in back-to-back races at Ipswich, so he races well here.

Justin Huxtable can give him every chance from the inside barrier.

Selections: 1-4-5-8

Race 3 - 2:43PM PRECINCT URBAN PLANNING Maiden Handicap (1200 METRES)

  •  Lonjourno
  • Lonjourno was very good in his first start for Jack Bruce after previously racing in Victoria with Ciaron Maher.

The son of Lonhro found the line powerfully over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast to finish a nose second.

He’ll strip fitter second-up and the form from that race has been good with two subsequent winners coming out of it.

Local jockey Jake Bayliss retains the ride and should settle in a prominent position.

    Selections: 2-14-7-11

    Race 4 - 3:23PM GORDON'S GIN Class 1 Handicap (1350 METRES)

    1 Rashford

I’m going to be forgiving of Rashford’s first-up run at Eagle Farm where he drew the car park and settled too far back.

To the Chris & Corey Munce-trained gelding’s credit, he worked to the line quite well to shorten the final margin to just 3.8 lengths.

He’ll have gained a fitness benefit from the run, and he placed in both his previous second-up races.

His only win came at this track, admittedly over a mile but with a strong speed he’ll be running on late.

    Selections: 1-2-4-3

    Race 5 - 4:03PM RDO EQUIPMENT BM65 Handicap (1200 METRES)

    1 Brocky

Brocky gave a good account of himself when resuming over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast last start.

As would be expected when first-up against fitter horses, he weakened late to finish 1.2 lengths fourth.

Trainer Liam Birchley has since sent him back to the trials to bring him along second-up.

The use of Corey Sutherland’s 3kg claim is astute and the previous Ipswich winner looks well placed here.

    Selections: 1-3-2-8

    Race 6 - 4:43PM TAB 0 - 58 Handicap (1100 METRES)

    15 Ilana The First

Ilana The First has had a stable change since winning on debut three weeks ago at Beaudesert.

Now with Jeff Dunn, the daughter of Pariah raced outside the lead over 1100m before letting down nicely to win by a length.

She’ll be better for the experience and the slight rise in distance should suit.

Rikki Jamieson can drive forward and look to control the race from in front.

    Selections: 15-2-10-11
