Ipswich Preview – Wednesday 9 April 2025 New

Date: 08-Apr-2025

This Wednesday, all roads lead to Ipswich for a monster 10-race card packed with top-class action.

The rail moves to the true position and with mostly fine weather forecast, we should see a surface presented that will give all horses their chance.

We’ve done the hard work for you and provided our top selections in each race.

Race 1 - 11:23AM GIBSON ARCHITECTS QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1100 METRES)

  1. Under Arrest (3)

This is a tricky way to start the day with the majority of these two-year-olds are on debut.

Under Arrest looks well prepared by Jack Bruce to make his debut following a tidy Sunshine Coast trial win.

The son of Super Seth was first out of the gates but took a sit before finding the line strongly under his own steam.

He’s drawn well for Damien Thornton so he should enjoy a nice run.

Selections: 2-6-3-8

Race 2 - 11:58AM GORDON'S GIN Maiden Plate (1200 METRES)

  1. Noble Decree (5)

Noble Decree resumes here following a very good first preparation that saw him finish runner-up in three of his four races.

The David Vandyke-trained gelding went within a short neck of winning on debut over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast so he’s able to fire fresh even though he raced over longer.

He looked super in a recent trial win where he worked strongly to the line.

Noel Callow should be able to settle in a prominent position before letting him loose in the straight.

Selections: 5-3-12-1

Race 3 - 12:33PM THE INDUSTRY SCHOOL Maiden Plate (1200 METRES)

  1. More For Ready (3)

More For Ready has had eight attempts to break her maiden status but looks in the best place to do so this preparation.

The Michael Morrison-trained mare opened her campaign with a solid effort at Doomben over 1110m where she found the front but was swamped late to finish just under a length second.

She backed that up with a tough effort at Beaudesert last start where she was never closer than three-wide yet still found the line well to finish 1.5 lengths second.

She’ll strip fitter third-up and maps to get a beautiful run for Georgina Cartwright.

Selections: 9-3-11-8

Race 4 - 1:08PM THE LAWN SHED Class 1 & Maiden Plate (1100 METRES)

  1. Writty (2)

Writty followed the all too familiar route of a Chris Waller-trained horse when they are transferred from Sydney to Brisbane and that’s with a win.

The daughter of Written Tycoon led over this course and distance before proving too strong in the run home to win by 1.1 lengths first-up.

She then went to town and settle a long way back after drawing the outside barrier at Doomben before finding the line well for a 2.4 length fourth

Kyle Wilson-Taylor takes the ride and should settle in a forward position from the good barrier.

Selections: 9-6-5-8

Race 5 - 1:43PM TAB Class 1 & Maiden Plate (1100 METRES)

  1. Pocketmoney (3)

Pocketmoney defied a complete lack of market support to win on debut over 1100m at Eagle Farm last start.

The Chris & Corey Munce-trained three-year-old filly settled last after drawing the outside barrier and had plenty of work to do in the run home but produced a devastating turn of foot to win by just under a length.

She’ll be better for the experience and will strip fitter second-up.

There looks to be good speed in the race which suits and possibly Martin Harley can settle a touch closer from the kind draw.

Selections: 12-5-1-3

Race 6 - 2:18PM THE IPSWICH TRIBUNE QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1666 METRES)

  1. Tulong (4)

Tulong started a $201 outsider on debut over 1350m at Doomben but ran nothing like a horse rated that astronomical price.

The Jason Edwards-trained gelding worked hard three-deep on speed and was entitled to give up in the run home but fought bravely to finish 1.1 lengths fifth.

He’ll strip fitter second-up and importantly draws a decent barrier.

Selections: 2-5-3-4

Race 7 - 2:53PM PRECINCT URBAN PLANNING Maiden Plate (1666 METRES)

  1. Casterly Rock (1)

Casterly Rock has raced well since joining the Jack Bruce stable from Sydney.

The son of Pierro found the line well when resuming over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast to finish a half-length second with third a further two lengths away.

He was then doing his best work late over 1350m at Doomben when finishing 1.1 lengths fourth.

He’ll appreciate the rise in distance third-up and did go within a head of winning over a mile at Wyong last preparation.

Damien Thornton should give him an economical run from the inside gate.

Selections: 1-12-5-2

Race 8 - 3:28PM GREAT NORTHERN Class 2 Handicap (1666 METRES)

  1. Valentino Roc (9)

Valentino Roc will appreciate the drop in class after competing well in stronger races lately.

The Brian Smith-trained gelding was no match for Voracious last start over 1400m at Eagle Farm but worked home well to finish three lengths second in the Class 3 Handicap.

An outside barrier beat him the start prior when he charged home to finish a length second to Express Payment over this distance at the Sunshine Coast.

Strong jockey Justin Huxtable replaces the apprentice.

Selections: 4-8-2-9

Race 9 - 4:03PM SEVEN Class 5 Handicap (1350 METRES)

  1. Outsmarted (4)

This is an open Class 5 Handicap with a handful of winning chances.

I’m going with Outsmarted who was terribly unlucky when resuming from a yearlong break three starts ago at Warwick where he finished 1.8 lengths third.

The Jake Capewell-trained gelding bounced back with a strong win at Warwick second-up before charging home despite wanting to lay out to win impressively over 1300m at Eagle Farm last start and keep his unbeaten record over this distance intact.

That was five weeks ago so he’s since had a trial to keep things ticking over.

Michael Rodd should settle in a prominent position.

Selections: 7-4-5-10

Race 10 - 4:38PM TEMPUS TWO BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1200 METRES)

  1. Anavinci (3)

Anavinci went back from a wide gate at Eagle Farm last start and that basically put pay to any chance she had as she simply got too far back.

To the Neasham & Archibald-trained mare’s credit, she stormed home despite losing a plate to finish 3.9 lengths fourth.

That was her first race in Queensland after previously racing in Sydney where she won at Listed level over this distance.

She looks well placed here and should enjoy a nice run for Emily Lang who claims 1.5kg.

Selections: 6-8-7-13
