For the second time in as many weeks, we’ll host midweek racing at the Ipswich Turf Club.
Seven races are scheduled to be run and won on what should be a good racing surface.
We’ve done the hard work for you and provided our top selections in each race.
Race 1 - 2:13PM CONTRACT CHEFS AUSTRALIA QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (800 METRES)
1 Moet At Midnight
Moet At Midnight was found to have poor post-race recovery following his debut over 1000m in a Saturday Eagle Farm race last month. Trainer Barry Lockwood has given him time to recover, and he recently trialled well at Doomben. The son of The Mission cruised around in front to win the 840m hit out comfortably. He maps to get a great run for Jaden Lloyd.
Selections: 1-7-2-3
Race 2 - 2:48PM TAB Maiden Plate (800 METRES)
2 Secretly Better
Secretly Better is having his first start since suffering cardiac arrythmia on debut in August. The Kelly Schweida-trained four-year-old gelding looked super in a recent trial where he led all the way, winning easily by 3.3 lengths. He’s drawn wide but gets blinkers on for the first time which should see Jimmy Orman be aggressive when the gates crash back.
Selections: 2-4-3-10
Race 3 - 3:23PM BARRIER REEF POOLS BENCHMARK 58 Handicap (2150 METRES)
7 Bay Street
This is a tough staying event made all the harder with two of the key chances deciding not to run. Bay Street ran on well last start on the Gold Coast Poly track to finish second by just under a length over 2000m, despite racing wide. That was a Class 3 and the Marcus Wilson-trained gelding now finds himself in a Benchmark 58 Handicap. Sam Collett climbs back in the saddle and has enjoyed success on him previously, winning over a mile in August.
Selections: 7-5-3-8
Race 4 - 3:58PM SEVEN RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap (1666 METRES)
6 Chayse ‘N’ Adam
Chayse ‘N’ Adam resumed in fine style here over 1350m last start. The Les Kelly-trained daughter of Maurice raced just behind the lead before taking a narrow gap on the fence to dash clear and win by half a length. That was her second win at Ipswich and kept her unbeaten record at the track intact. The rise to 1666m looks ideal second-up.
Selections: 6-4-5-7
Race 5 - 4:33PM GREAT NORTHERN Maiden Plate (1350 METRES)
15 Helluva Soiree
This maiden is a real head scratcher with many horses displaying indifferent form and the leading chances drawing poorly. Helluva Soiree failed to handle the heavy conditions last start at Doomben and finished 3.82 lengths behind the winner. The Chris Anderson-trained three-year-old filly was much better the start prior when first-up over 1200m at this course where she found the line well for a 1.3 length fourth. Back on a dry track and with increased fitness third-up, she can fight out the finish in this open affair.
Selections: 15-7-14-4
Race 6 - 5:10PM SCHWEPPES Class 3 Handicap (1100 METRES)
7 Majorelle
Majorelle is having his first start for Matt Dunn after previously racing with Kacy Fogden. The four-year-old gelding has tuned up for this first-up assignment with two very good trial wins. The most recent saw him lead over 1010m at Ballina before effortlessly dashing clear of his rivals for a 4.8 length victory. There looks to be good speed in the race which should see Robbie Dolan settle just off it before launching in the straight.
Selections: 7-3-5-8
Race 7 - 5:40PM SAMMUT BULOW Class 6 Plate (1100 METRES)
10 Reliable Ruby
Reliable Ruby resumes here looking to continue her solid first-up record. The Chris Munce-trained mare warmed up for this with a Deagon trial where she worked home well behind speedsters Prince Of Boom and Rubiquitous. She was only beaten a head by Nashira when resuming over 1000m at Eagle Farm. There looks to be good speed in the race which will help her chances given she’ll settle back and look to storm home with Damien Thornton in the saddle.
Selections: 10-2-4-1
