Wednesday racing review New

Date: 11-Jul-2025

Spoils were shared across the card as midweek metropolitan racing came to Ipswich on Wednesday.

Seven different stables went home with winners, as did seven different riders on a winter track that raced perfectly in the Soft 7 conditions.

Just as we saw at the feature Sunshine Coast meeting last Saturday, where both the Listed Glasshouse and Group 3 Winx Guineas winners leapt out of lead-up runs on Ipswich Cup day, you would expect to see some future Saturday metro form come out of this meeting.

The most likely candidate is emerging filly Deep Vegas, who opened up for a four lengths winning margin under Emily Lang. Racing in the Black Soil Bloodstock colours, the Tony Gollan trained filly is now the winner of two of her three starts and looks destined for better races.

Rex Lipp was thrilled to see the talented El Pensador return to winning ways after what had been a frustrating campaign. El Pensador had been knocking on the door of Saturday city success last prep, but little niggling problems had prevented him from producing his best this time around.

But he turned up at Ipswich in good order on Wednesday and benefitted from a clever Cejay Graham ride after she sent the four-year-old to the front turning for home and he was able to steal a winning break.

Punters rounded out the day on a winning note as the Kelly Schweida stable continued on its winning ways with the $2.90 favourite Taltarni Fields. With Corey Sutherland in the saddle, Taltarni Fields defied all of his challengers in the straight, posting his third Ipswich win from just five appearances at the venue.

The biggest upset on the card came when the John Thomas trained Foolsay kept running under Hannah Richardson to win the TAB Maiden Handicap as a $26 chance.
