Racing returns to our preferred Friday slot this week with a monster 10-race card. The track is rated a Good 4 but with rain developing we will be crossing our fingers that it doesn’t arrive until after the final race. The rail is out 8m the entire course.
Race 1 - 11:47AM FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Two-Years-Old Class 1 Plate (1100 METRES)
Soo Sweet (7) struck interference and was also blocked for a run when debuting at Eagle Farm over 1000m with a third placing to Within Reason. Despite that she really picked up strongly late to shorten the margin to just over half a length. With natural improvement and a sweet run from the inside gate, she’ll be hard to beat.
Russian Alliance (3) resumed in her second preparation with a good win over 1100m at Toowoomba. She’ll strip fitter second-up. This will be her first trip away from her home track.
Switch And Slide (6) is on debut for Chris Meagher. Warmed up for this with a solid trial. He’ll take benefit from the experience but there is a possibility he could get stuck three-wide in the small field.
Speedy Macho (1) finished off strongly to break his maiden status over 800m here last start. This looks a touch rich.
Race 2 - 12:22PM TAB QTIS Three-Years-Old BM62 Handicap (1700 METRES)
Tokyo Blossom (7) was not suited by the slow tempo when resuming with a 1.8 length fifth when resuming over 1350m here. It turned into a sit and sprint and that’s just not her go. She’ll enjoy the rise in trip and will strip fitter for what is an easier affair. She won her only other second-up race.
Mishani Spartan (1) will appreciate the drop in class. He’s been well beaten in races like The Wave and a strong Saturday three-year-old contest recently. He’s won three races and can challenge for another back against this level of opposition.
Mishani Choice (6) broke through for her maiden win last start over 1800m at the Sunshine Coast. She hadn’t done a great deal prior to that but may kick on now she has that first win out of the way.
Joybells (9) won in deadheat to break her maiden on the Gold Coast Poly two starts back. From the Waller yard so has to be respected but needs to lift.
Race 3 - 12:57PM FILLIES AND FASCINATORS QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate (800 METRES)
Liquor (9) showed good speed to win a recent trial over 1000m. Boom Shot finished second in that trial, won on Wednesday at Doomben. She’s drawn a touch sticky but I think Angela Jones can be positive and go forward. No doubt Tony Gollan has her fitness at a great level to fire fresh.
Bauhinia Rock (1) resumes here on the back of a close second to Tribeca Star in a recent trial. That has brained them on Wednesday which is good form for this.
Hippeastrum (8) was just behind stablemate Liquor in a recent trial. If I’m giving Liquor a winning chance, then logically I must for this filly. She’s drawn perfectly in barrier 1.
Picador (5) is on debut for John Dann. Solid Toowoomba trial leading into this. Blinkers going on for the first time signals intent.
Race 4 - 1:34PM SIRROMET BM70 Handicap (800 METRES)
Royal Nicci (10) returns to the races after having a few issues at the end of her last preparation. She demonstrated that she possesses a great deal of speed early on and if she can return to that form, she’ll be hard to beat. Drawn ideally in barrier 3.
Orsetto (4) resumes after a short let-up. He loves racing on his home track over this distance boasting a super record of five wins from ten starts. He draws perfectly for Yvette Lewis who’s 2kg claim is a plus.
Dream Weaving (3) is an out and out short track speedster. She won over this course and distance two starts back but generally needs a few runs to get going.
Turboart (7) drops back to this suitable distance for the first time in five starts. Last time he raced over it he was narrowly beaten at Toowoomba. Hard to discount any runner from this stable.
Race 5 - 2:12PM SCHWEPPES Maiden Handicap (1350 METRES)
Chicane (2) should be given the benefit of the doubt following his debut effort at the Sunshine Coast. He finished 7.8 lengths behind the winner but he was cut out of it shortly after entering the straight and then was blocked. He is drawn well and gets his chance to redeem himself against a moderate field.
Canelander (5) boxed on well after racing wide throughout at Eagle Farm. Draws much better here and should be reaching peak fitness.
Leery (3) has finished runner-up at her past two starts at Warwick and Dalby. This is harder but she’s racing well and gets blinkers on for the first time.
Race 6 - 2:50PM THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT Maiden Handicap (1350 METRES)
Must (3) should be reaching peak fitness third-up. Last start he loomed at Eagle Farm over 1400m but weakened in the final 100m. Racing on the inside ground probably didn’t help either. Jimmy Orman retains the ride and should race in a good position from the nice gate.
Seiryu (7) has never lived up to early expectations. She was plain in her first-up effort at the Sunshine Coast with the jockey suggesting she get blinkers. They go on so we may see some improvement.
Tyson’s Fury (9) can mix his form but when he has his mind of the job he can run a decent race as shown by his record of five placings from 14 starts. Drawn well.
Jakat (5) resumes here on the back of strong trial win on the Gold Coast Poly. He’ll be better over further but can run on if the speed is on.
Race 7 - 3:27PM GREAT NORTHERN Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Big Impact (5) looked good winning a recent trial hard held. The Tony Gollan-trained mare won on debut so can fire fresh. Angela Jones can make use of the mare’s early speed to lead from barrier 3 which should see her hard to beat.
Abu Simbel (4) will strip fitter second-up after condition gave out in the concluding stages over this course and distance last start. Jimmy Orman in the saddle is a big plus.
Aureus Angel (3) is a newcomer to the Chris Munce stable after previously racing with Edward Cummings in Sydney. She warmed up for this with a trial win where she worked home nicely from the back. Prior to coming north, she finished off strongly to win at Kembla Grange. The wide gate isn’t ideal.
Habeebati (8) has been a touch disappointing since joining Lee Freedman. She won two starts back on the Gold Coast Poly. Blinkers may improve her.
Race 8 - 4:04PM ST PATRICK'S DAY RACES 17 MARCH Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Han (1200 METRES)
National Choice (1) is resuming and also having his first start for Rob Heathcote after previously racing with Price and Kent in Victoria. He struggled to win more than once in 17 starts but he raced well in stronger races than this. He looked good in a recent trial and gets the services of Group 1 jockey Ben Thompson.
Hostwin Crown (10) led from barrier to box on debut at Lismore. He showed plenty of fight to win and will strip fitter second-up. The Campton stable is going well.
Brentwood (7) resumes here and has raced well fresh before. Fair trial leading into this. He settles back which isn’t ideal with the barrier out so far.
Dutch Gold (3) will most likely need the run first-up. Raced well over further last preparation but if the speed is on, he can run on late.
Race 9 - 4:40PM EVENTS @ IEEC.COM.AU BM75 Handicap (1100 METRES)
SCR Manhood (2) resumes here and is undefeated in two first-up races. Last preparation he bolted in by 2.8 lengths when fresh. He looked good cruising around in a recent trial against Zoustyle. He’s drawn out but he has the early speed to counter that.
SCR Princess Bojack (4) will find this easier than her last few starts when running into Fetch and Deepour. She has a good record over this course and distancing which includes a win here just four starts back. Will give plenty of cheek from the inside gate.
Miss Mckinley (12) fought bravely when going down by a nose first-up at Toowoomba. She races well second-up and will enjoy the rise in trip. Ben Thompson takes the ride.
High Cost (1) was tough last start when fighting out the finish over 1350m at Doomben. The drop back in trip is a concern this deep into the preparation but the ten-year-old won’t shirk the task.
Race 10 - 5:19PM THE IPSWICH QUARTER BM60 Handicap (1350 METRES)
Diana’s Affair (3) was excellent last start when overcoming a poor start to charge home and win over this course and distance. Prior to that he’d been mixing it up with The Vowels who has been flying. He rises in weight but drops in class. Maps well.
Bulsara (7) won here over 1200m two starts back in good style. He then went to town and tired for third after leading. The rise to 1350m looks a query but he’ll race on speed and give it a real crack.
Visual Element (10) resumes here and will be better over further. Finished last preparation with two wins at Toowoomba. Look for her running on.
Hyde (8) won narrowly over 1500m here four starts back. Since then he’s run okay without threatening. His usual effort could see him place.
Best Bets

SCR Race 9 – Manhood (2)
