Ipswich Preview – Wednesday 5 February 2025 New

Date: 04-Feb-2025

Midweek metropolitan racing is a staple over the coming month at Ipswich and we’ll once again host a seven-race program this Wednesday.

The rail is out 3.5m the entire course and the track should be approaching the Good range by the first race.

We’ve provided our thoughts on each race below.

Race 1 - 2:13PM TAB Maiden Plate (800 METRES)

4 Hidden Nugget

The raced brigade hasn’t set the world on fire so I’m happy to side with debutante Hidden Nugget.

The Darren Bell-trained gelding showed good speed to lead a 1050m Deagon trial before being run down by subsequent winner Waku Waku.

Georgie Cartwright, who rode in the trial, can drive forward and settle handy.

Selections: 4-9-10-6

Race 2 - 2:48PM GREAT NORTHERN QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1200 METRES)

5 Cool Moon

Cool Moon looks hard to beat here based on her debut effort at Doomben.

The Edmonds & McLean-trained filly found the line well, clocking the fastest 600m of the race, to finish a length second over 1110m.

She’ll be better for the experience and will strip fitter second-up.

The rise in distance looks ideal and she maps to get the run of the race.

Selections: 5-6-2-3

Race 3 - 3:23PM SCHWEPPES Maiden Handicap (1350 METRES)

4 Sexy Time

Sexy Time debuts here for Tony Gollan following a solid trial win.

The Almanzor gelding let down effortless to easily win the 1000m Doomben trial by 1.75 lengths.

Emily Lang remains in the saddle and her 2kg claim comes in handy.

Selections: 4-2-3-5

Race 4 - 3:58PM SEVEN NEWS Class 2 Handicap (1680 METRES)

3 Sweet Proposal

Sweet Proposal will appreciate the drop in class after finishing down the track in a Benchmark 72 Handicap over 1800m at Kensington last start.

The Neasham & Archibald-trained Dundeel mare ran well the start prior when finishing 1.3 lengths third over 1600m at Kembla Grange.

She will be at peak fitness now and maps to lead from the inside barrier.

If Jag Guthmann-Chester can dictate the speed then she may prove hard to run down.

Selections: 3-1-6-5

Race 5 - 4:33PM BARRIER REEF POOLS Class 5 Handicap (1350 METRES)

2 I See You Coming

I See You Coming has raced well since transferring from the Tony Gollan stable to Trevor Thomas.

The six-year-old gelding stepped up to this distance last start at Doomben and made full use of the inside barrier to enjoy a nice run before storming home to win narrowly.

He returns to Ipswich for the first time since finishing a length second over 1200m three starts ago.

There doesn’t look to be a great deal of speed in the race which should see Michael Rodd drive forward from the low draw and lead.

Selections: 2-4-1-3

Race 6 - 5:10PM RED BULL BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1100 METRES)

4 Shot Of Whiskey

Shot Of Whiskey returns to the races on the back of a nice trial win where he opened a big margin before cruising to the line.

The Matt Hoysted-trained gelding has won two from three first-up races including last preparation when winning by 2.5 lengths over 1000m at Toowoomba.

The forecast looks unlikely, but any rain would aid his chances.

Jasper Franklin, who claims 3kg, can drive forward and lead or box seat.

Selections: 4-12-6-11

Race 7 - 5:45PM LEMSECCO Class 1 Handicap (1350 METRES)

1 Jonny Da Wolf

Jonny Da Wolf returns to Queensland after a stint in Victoria.

Now with the Munce stable, the Tivaci gelding has been racing in good form with back-to-back third placings at Warrnambool.

He has a good record over this course and distance with his only win coming here in April when bolting in by 6.3 lengths.

Top jockey Jimmy Orman takes the ride.

Selections: 1-3-4-11
