Meeting In Review – Wednesday 11th December 2024 New

Date: 12-Dec-2024

There’s been a lot of rain around these past few weeks, but thankfully it held off on Wednesday and we were able to conduct our six-race program albeit on a Heavy 10 surface.

Spoils were shared on the day with six individual jockeys and trainers each winning a race.

Cejay Graham was rewarded for showing initiative in the opening race aboard the Rob Heathcote-trained Sobute.

Following a slow start, Graham found herself at the tail of the field early but not happy with the slow speed, she circled the field at the 800m mark to sit outside the lead.

It proved a winning move with her mount giving a good kick in the straight to defy the late challenge by race favourite She’s Got Lyrics.

A small field of four in the Class 4 Handicap over 1700m didn’t prevent an exciting contest.

Twisted Mistress and Wanda’s Outlaw duked it out in the straight before the Chris Waller-trained Disney Castle swamped the pair late to claim a narrow victory with just a head separating the three!

It wasn’t an easy watch for Disney Castle backers with apprentice Bailey Wheeler having to niggle at the mare to get her going prior to the turn.

The Class 1 Handicap over 1700m played out similarly to the way the opening race did.

Former Sydney-based mare Torie’s Rose left the barriers last and found herself a number of lengths off the second last horse.

With the leaders walking in front, Melbourne Cup winning jockey Robbie Dolan took matters into his own hands, passing the field to lead.

The Christos Zintilis-trained four-year-old had too much in the tank late to win well by 1.6 lengths.

It was a ten out of ten ride from Dolan.

Vienna Who landed some good bets when she saluted in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate.

Justin Huxtable provided the Darren Bell-trained daughter of Solo Flyer a near perfect ride before she left down strongly to dash clear and win by 2.6 lengths.

The Debi O’Toole-trained Elected caused a boilover in the Benchmark 65 Handicap over 1350m.

While his three rivals all started under $5, Elected jumped as the $16 rank outsider of the field.

Chris Whiteley went straight to the front on the seven-year-old gelding and made every post a winner although it got very willing late with the chasers closing in fast.

It wasn’t to be with Elected clinging on for a nose victory with the fourth-place horse just a half-length away.

The John Dann-trained Adiella rounded out the program with a strong first-up win.

Justin Stanley provided the daughter of The Mission with a rail hugging ride to take her record to four wins from six starts and stamp her card as a mare to follow.

Racing returns to Ipswich next Wednesday, the 18th of December.
