A winning treble at Wednesday’s meeting saw Tony Gollan extend his lead in this season’s Ipswich Trainers premiership.
Queensland’s top conditioner kickstarted his winning day in the QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap over 800m with Impervious who started as a $1.55 favourite.
The daughter of Farnan was fair away but was able to settle handy in the run before getting to the outside upon straightening.
She drove clear under Angela Jones in the final 100m to win comfortably by a length.
Love ‘N’ Rockets provided Gollan with his second winner on the day when she won the QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate.
Last season’s leading Ipswich apprentice Emily Lang settled in the second half of the field before advancing her position on the home turn.
The Spirit Of Boom filly launched in the straight to win the 1350m contest and defy a savage betting drift.
Love ‘N Rockets wore the distinctive Black Soil Bloodstock colours as did Gollan’s third and final winner of the day, Able Seaman.
Just like her stablemate, she was unwanted in the betting drifting from $8 to $11.
Jones provided the five-year-old gelding with the perfect ride in the Class 1 Handicap over 1690m, settling handy before her mount let down powerfully in the run home to win by just under a length.
It was Jones’ second win of the day and maintained her lead in this season’s Ipswich Jockey premiership.
Justin Huxtable is second to Jones in 2024/25 and made sure he the margin was only two wins when he piloted the Kevin Kemp-trained Can’t Getwhatiwant to victory in the Class 3 Handicap over 1350m.
‘Hux’ was able to keep favourite West Cork wide in the early stages and that paid dividends late as he sat down and rode hard to drive the Toowoomba gelding to a length win.
Sinawann was another Toowoomba galloper to win on the day thanks to a magnificent training performance by Tony & Maddy Sears.
The eight-year-old gelding last enjoyed success in the 2021 G3 Heffernan Stakes at Caulfield, a massive 1144 day winning drought!
The Sears camp were quietly confident leading into the 1100m Open Handicap and they were justified with Jimmy Orman getting the best out of Sinawann to defy the late challenge of Light Of Boom and win by a whisker.
Bailey Wheeler went to the top of the Ipswich Apprentice Jockey premiership with a win aboard the Nat McCall-trained Love ‘N’ Games.
The gun apprentice jumped straight to the front in the 2180m test of stamina and was able to dictate terms in front before holding on for a close win.
It was Wheeler’s seventh win at Ipswich this season.
It was a good day for the young hoops with fellow apprentices Jasper Franklin and Jade Hampson also winning races on the day.
